Picked up this latest bit of news from Bloomberg. Apparently donations have plummeted, and the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra is calling it quits for 2009-2010.
Full article from Bloomberg.com (which I’ve noticed has looked a lot sharper since they picked up those CUNY-heads) is available by clicking here.

April 17 (Bloomberg) — The Brooklyn Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra has canceled its remaining concert this season and its entire 2009-10 season for the full orchestra because of a drop in donations.
The orchestra found it would fall short of its $3 million budget, provided by individuals, corporations and foundations, and so decided to cancel the May 9 concert — the last of a season that began January 31 — and the next season, said J. Barclay Collins II, the symphony’s board chairman, in a phone interview. He declined to detail by how much donations had fallen.

What a shame. I’d much rather see a bailout for groups like this. 3 million dollars is nothing compared to the Merrill Lynch bonuses. They got what? 3.2 BILLION dollars as a reward for losing everyone’s money, yet the Brooklyn Philharmonic Orchestra has to cancel its entire season?
At least the Orchestra ADDS to people’s lives.
