COUNCILMAN GENTILE ANNOUNCES APPROVAL FOR STREET RENAMING IN HONOR OF BOB BUONVINO
CITY HALL- The proposal to rename a Brooklyn street in honor of devoted Brooklyn resident, Bob Buonvino, which was first introduced by Councilman Gentile, was approved by the new York City Council at today’s Stated meeting.
Councilman Gentile was a lead supporter of renaming the street of 18th Avenue and 83rd Street to “Robert M. Buonvino Place” in order to commemorate the productive and selfless acts of Buonvino.
“More than being an exemplary civic leader, Bob was a true friend to myself and the community,” Councilman Gentile said. “Having his name on 83rd Street and 18th Avenue means that the memory of his contributions to the neighborhood and the example he set will live on forever.”
Buonvino, a dutiful civic leader, began his pattern of serving when he joined the United States Navy. He then went on to become involved in various local organizations such as the Amity Post of the American Legion, the Kings County United War Veterans, the Regina Pacis- Santa Rosalia Parish.
Buonvino was passionate about the preservation and improvement of his community, which is why he helped found the Friends of Historic New Utrecht organization. This organization worked to preserve the New Utrecht Church and Cemetery.
Buonvino committed his life to serving his community and Councilman Gentile wanted to let the memory of this avid Brooklyn resident to live on in the community he worked to improve. The New York City Council’s approval will allow that to happen now.
