Guss’ Pickles, one of the last vestiges of the Lower East Side’s once-thriving east European Jewish tradition, is moving its street-side barrels of dills and half-sours from Manhattan to Brooklyn’s Borough [...] Councilman Gentile Announces Approval For Street Renaming In Honor of Bob Buonvino CITY HALL- The proposal to rename a Brooklyn street in honor of devoted Brooklyn resident, Bob Buonvino, which was first introduced by Councilman Gentile, was approved by the new York City Council at today’s Stated meeting. Councilman Gentile was a lead supporter of renaming the street of 18th Avenue and 83rd Street to “Robert M. Buonvino Place” in order to commemorate the productive and selfless acts of [...] But after a two day survey of 3rd avenue and 5th avenue in Bay Ridge, our reporting team found over 25 vacated or vacating storefronts. Perhaps the most unfortunate block of all is 3rd avenue, between Bay Ridge Avenue and 70th street. Here we found four empty store fronts. The remaining stores are niche food services, a used goods store, a deli and the famous fresh-bread Cangiano’s. With the exception of the Second Hand Goods store, all other businesses on the block could in some way be threatened by the pending July opening of the Key Food on Bay Ridge [...] Funny you should ask… In case you don’t know, she represents a chunk of what we, here, lovingly call Bayridgistan.
